Mary Nash Mercer

Mary Nash Mercer, 86, of Gainesville, died July 22, 2022, from a long battle with Alzheimer’s.

A native of Athens, she was a daughter of the late Luther J. and Florrie Reeves Nash. She was preceded in death by a brother, Luther J. Nash, Jr, sister, Winifred Hunter Byrd, sister Sally Nash Upchurch, and was the widow of James Robert Mercer.

Mrs. Mercer was a member of First Baptist Church of Gainesville. She was a devoted Mom, Wife and Grandmother. A sassy southern lady, she loved to laugh and loved having all her family around her. No holiday was skipped, no meal was ever missed and no Skipbo game was ever denied. She enjoyed being with her friends in the Garden Club and on the tennis court. She was married 58 years to her high school sweetheart Jimmy Mercer. To all those who knew and loved her, thank you for the years of love and support and know that she loved and valued each and every one of your friendships!

Survivors include her children, Robin Mercer (Sylvia), Jennie Greene (Rex), Kelly Mercer (Casey), Kim White (Ben), and Shannon Mercer (Kelly); grandchildren Valerie, Avery, Zach, John, Jenna, Katy, Nash, Mary, Emily, Susie, Ellie, Vance, and Lanie; and 12 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, Tuesday July 26th, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  Graveside services will be held Wednesday July 27th at Alta Vista Cemetery at 11:00 with Dr. Bill Coates officiating. In lieu of flowers please send donations to an Alzheimer's foundation of your choice.
