Algene Freeman Martin, age 82 of Cleveland, passed away Monday July 18, 2022.
Algene was born in White County on April 6, 1940, to the late J.C. Freeman and Beulah Barrett Freeman. She was a faithful, loving, devoted mother and stood by her husband of nearly 65 years as he pastored several churches over a span of 50 years. She loved to garden, read, cook, and loved to feed the birds. She was “Mamagene” to her grandchildren, who she loved so much, and they her. She was a longtime member of Chattahoochee Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Geneal T. Freeman.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 65 years, Rev. Loyd Martin, Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Cherri and Joe Morrison, Cleveland, Holly and Kerry Smith, Aubrey, TX, and Ginger and Jesse Thomas, Evans, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harold Blalock, Cleveland; sister-in-law, Emily Freeman, Cleveland; grandchildren, Sarah McCollum, Nicole Ludvik, Andrew Smith, John Morrison, Jay Thomas, Lydia Thomas, Allie Thomas; great-grandchildren, Bryce McCollum, Sawyer Smith, Shiloh Smith, Kendal McCollum, Jaycee McCollum, and special little boys, Oliver and Grayson Smith, who she’s with now in Heaven; She also has a number of nieces and nephews that were loved dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Chattahoochee Baptist Church. The Rev. Ricky Elrod and The Rev. Loyd Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in Chattahoochee Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:30 PM Wednesday at Barrett Funeral Home, prior to the funeral service.
