Charles E Godfrey

Charles E. Godfrey, 64, of Flowery Branch, GA, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Inie Myers Godfrey; sister, Evelyn Godfrey; and brother, Claude Godfrey, Jr.  He is survived by his sisters, Barbara Quinn (Don), Athens, GA; Martha Knowlton, Winder, GA; Pam Oliver (Greg), Lawrenceville, GA; and his brother, James Godfrey, Flowery Branch, GA.  He is also survived by his nieces, Kelly Knowlton Suddeth (Chris), Winder, GA, and Hayley Oliver, Lawrenceville, GA; his nephew, Paul Knowlton (Kimberly), Winder, GA; and his great nephews, Benjamin and Noah Suddeth.

Charles was born April 19, 1958 and grew up in Sugar Hill in Gwinnett County, GA.  He attended Sugar Hill Elementary and North Gwinnett High School, graduating in 1976.  He worked several years for the Georgia Shoe Manufacturing Company, and then he started a 40+ year career in the window and door manufacturing business.  His last employer was Masonite Doors in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

Charles had great interest in music.  He had an extensive knowledge of the history of popular music and amassed a large collection of recordings in many genres.  He loved researching his family’s genealogy, tracing his ancestors back at least 200 years and leaving his family a wealth of information.  His research took him throughout the Southeast.  He also loved traveling and camping in the mountains, especially in the Smokies.

Charles will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, his quick sense of humor, and his generosity. 

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park South Funeral Home, Flowery Branch, GA, with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery at 3:00 PM.
