Robert Edwin Congdon

Bob Congdon age 90 of Clarksville, died Tuesday, June 28, 2022, Bom November 10, 1931 in El Monte, California, He was the son of the late Orville Lloyd Congdon and Inez Rena Gruber Congdon. Mr. Congdon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Jeanne Black Congdon, three brothers: Orville Edward, Wallace Edgar and Arthur Ehlers Congdon.
 
Mr. Congdon grew up in Atlanta and attended Roosevelt High School. In 1950 he joined the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty in North Africa. In 1952 he returned to his parents' home at Lake Burton where he met his future wife Betty Leanne Black. They married in 1953 and started to develop and operate Congdon's Landing, a marina on Lake Burton in Cherokee Cove. They sold their business in 1966 and continued to live at the lake. Lake Burton was always a special place for both of them.
 
Mr. Congdon attended church services at Moccasin Creek State Park for over 50 years. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge No 325 F&AM.  He loved being full time gardener and maintenance man at their property on the lake.
 
Mr. Congdon retired after 32 years with the White County and Habersham County School Systems. He taught one year at Nacoochee High School and then became their principal for the next 11 years. He also taught at North Habersham for 8 years and then became the principal of North Habersham Junior High for his remaining 12 years in education. He graduated from Piedmont College and Western Carolina University with majors in science and school administration
 
In 2011 he and his wife started on a new adventure. They bought the Charm House in Clarksville and started back to work once again.
 
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Congdon, 5 nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
