Mary Sue Stinespring Crawford

Obituary Date: Monday, June 27, 2022

Mary Sue Stinespring Crawford was born in Cornelia, Georgia on March 25, 1925.  She went to heaven on June 27, 2022. Her father, Curtis Price Stinespring Sr., died when she was 13 years old. Her mother Mary Green Stinespring died in the Winecoff Hotel fire of Atlanta in December 1946

She married the love of her life, Anderson Burgess Crawford, in April 1946. They lived in Toccoa and enjoyed over 72 years of marriage. In addition to her parents, Mary Sue was preceded in death by her husband Andy and by her siblings, Curtis Stinespring, Frank Stinespring, Ruth Stoffregen and Betty Miller.

She had a sharp mathematical mind, became a very capable accountant and met Andy while working at the Letourneau plant in Toccoa during World War II. She helped her husband with the accounting for his business and also did tax preparation work past the age of 80.

Rather than growing bitter when they had difficulty having children, Mary Sue put her trust in the Lord. God answered their prayers with Debbie, Jane, and John, coming after 10 years of marriage.  Debbie is married to John Wilkinson and lives in Toccoa. Their son Terrell (Tiffney) has three sons, Griffin, Gavin and Graden. Their daughter Tara (Adam Williams, deceased) has two daughters, Andi and Rachel.  Jane is married to Rick Moody and lives in Morganton, NC. Jane has a son, Austin Jones, and a daughter, Amy Lee (John Ingham) who has three children, Dawson, Eliana and Selah Ann. John and Annie Crawford of Peachtree Corners have four sons, Luke (Elizabeth), Josh (Macie) John and Stevie (Abby).

Mary Sue was a devoted and selfless mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly and who demonstrated that love in numerous ways over her long life. Mary Sue had a strong faith in God and was committed to her church, First United Methodist Church of Toccoa, where she helped teach the Rhodes Sunday school class for many years. She was also instrumental in the formation of the Friendship Club and was active in the United Methodist Women. For many years, she was active in the Toccoa Woman’s Club and had served as president of that group.

She always had a pleasant demeanor and through numerous health challenges in recent years, never complained, held tight to her faith, and always had a smile on her face. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.

The family would like to say a special thanks to the staff at Mansions Assisted Living where Mary Sue lived for the past two years and to the devoted medical staff at Capstone Hospice.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 30 at 2 PM at the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa with The Reverend Jerrell Beatty and The Reverend  Brent White officiating. Grandsons, Luke Crawford, Josh Crawford, John Crawford and Austin Jones and great-grandsons Griffin Wilkinson and Gavin Wilkinson will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, June 29 from 6 PM until 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone who desires would honor her memory with a contribution to the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa or the organization of their choice.

Entombment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Mausoleum with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mary Sue Stinespring Crawford.
