Nellie Mae Hayes Conner

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 26, 2022

Mrs. Nellie Mae Hayes Conner, resident of Cleveland, GA passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022 after suffering cancer at the age of 88. Her son and daughter in law, Kelly were by her side.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Pastor George Cline will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Tuesday, June 28th from 2:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

 

Nellie was born September 1, 1933 in Forsyth County, GA to Cora Mae Jones and Marvin Hayes. Nellie graduated with her GED. She married the Love of her Life, William L. Conner in 1952. They had three children. They were a Navy family and their final homes were in Young Harris and St. Simons Island, GA

 

Nellie was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church of Blairsville and Glynn Haven on St. Simons Island where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

 

She loved to paint, garden and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. She actively passed out gospel tracts to all. She was also an active member of the Navigators Christian Group.

 

Nellie was preceded in death by her mother, Cora Hayes; father, Marvin Hayes; husband, William L. Conner; son, Ralph P. Conner; twin sister, and brother, Joyce Evans and Royce Hayes; sisters, Jeanette Hayes, Eunice Beasley and brothers, James Hayes and R.L. Hayes.

 

Nellie is survived by her son, Ronald D. (Kelly) Conner of Cleveland; daughter, Genea Conner of Cleveland; daughter in law, Carol Conner of St. Simons Island; grandsons, Chad McCarthy (Chelly) of Brunswick, Robert Conner (Amalia) of Brunswick; step- grandchildren, Julia Ann Clark, Terry Scheitler; great granddaughters, Annie McCarthy of Brunswick, Lauren Wiley ; of Brunswick; great-great grandchildren, Lexi Wiley, William Wiley; sister, Bonnie Edge of Gainesville; brother, Russell Hayes of Gainesville and a number of other loving relatives.
