Thelma Elliott Byrd, 92, of Dawsonville passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born February 24, 1930 to the late Alvin and Thena Elliott, Thelma was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. A devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was affectionately known as “Granny Byrd” and “Soapy” by her grandchildren who she was so very proud of. Thelma retired from Sweet Orr in Dawsonville where she worked for many years as a supervisor. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Thelma worked very hard all throughout her life and was also an amazing cook. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marcus Calvin Byrd, Sr.; son, Tim Byrd; son-in-law, Kenny Pelfrey.
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Deborah Pelfrey, Sheila and Jimmy Holbrook; son and daughers-in-law, Mark and Linda Byrd, Janet Byrd; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Clarence Denard, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Kendy (Todd) Bennett, Travis (Jody) Pelfrey, Calvin (Kayla) Byrd, Anna (Trey) Weatherford), Erika (Kyle) Woody, Blake (Nikki) Holbrook, Camilla (Jeff) Hood, Sandy Holbrook, Amy (Symone) Watkins, T.J. (Kassie) Byrd, Jana Byrd; 20 great-grandchildren; other relatives.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all of Thelma’s wonderful caregivers over the years.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church in Dawsonville. Rev. Andy Wallace and Rev. Eddie Herring will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday June 19 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
