Evelyn Sprouse Wallace

Evelyn Sprouse Wallace, 85, of Buford, GA, entered her heavenly home Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 3 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Pastor Mark Eiken and Pastor Jon Reed will officiate. Interment will follow at Hamilton Mill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, 2022 from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or The Oaks at Braselton, in memory of Evelyn.

Evelyn was born in Decatur, Georgia to the late Eugene Sprouse and Mable Funderburk Sprouse. She married the love of her life, Cecil, in 1953. They lived in several places while Cecil served in the Air Force before settling in Buford in 1964. Evelyn won Gwinnett County Woman of the Year in 1965. She retired from Gwinnett County Public Schools after teaching for 30 years. Evelyn was active in the PTA at Harmony Elementary and was the summer librarian at the Buford Library when her children were young. She also served as a substitute teacher at Harmony and Dyer Elementary. Evelyn was active in Zion Hill Baptist Church, Buford for many years and was an active member of First Baptist Church Buford. She served in many roles at church, including Sunday School Teacher and assisting with Vacation Bible School. Evelyn loved her family. Her children say she was the number one mom and others say she was the sweetest lady they knew and memories of her will always be treasured.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Wallace, Sr.; her parents; brothers, Fred Sprouse and Bill Sprouse. She is survived by her children, Vickylee Ivey and husband Howard of Braselton, Jim Wallace and wife Becky of Buford, Ken Wallace and wife Allison of Buford, John Wallace and Tracy Wallace of Buford; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Chris and Belinda Ivey, Shawn; Keith Ivey and Jason, Connor and Cassidy; Amanda Thomasson, Matthew, Abigail and Savannah; Brandon and Katy Hastings, Addison and Masley; Bridget and Joel Cobb, Tanner, Ella, Eden; Jennifer and Ben Poole, Harrison and Charlotte; Lindsey and Richard Compton, Jude, Eli, Naomi and Luke; Taylor and Brock Mosley, Oakland; siblings, Joseph Sprouse and Mary Milley; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
