Shelba Jean Martin

 Mrs. Shelba Jean Martin, age 84 of Leesburg, Florida, formerly from Gainesville, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at The Cove at Tavares Assisted Living following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 19, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with interment to follow in Whitehall Baptist Church Cemetery.  Reverend Alvin Burns and Reverend Kody Rylee will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 5 – 8 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin was born September 15, 1937 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late O. C. Poole and Gertrude Poole, she was 1 of their six children.  Shelba loved playing basketball for Gillsville High School.  In mid to late 50’s she married her high school sweetheart, Lamar Elder.  They had 2 children, Curtis and Alan Elder.  She then began her long career in banking, also loved bowling and was an avid bowler.  Later in life, she married Richard Martin, together they owned and operated 2 community country stores.  Shelba was a loving soul that loved everyone and always had a loving smile to share.  Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Cecil Poole and Laymond Poole and her sister, Gladys Cathey.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her sister, Elaine Hulsey, her brother, Joel Poole, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
