Richard Alan Matson, age 70, of Baldwin formerly Buford, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Born in Atlanta on November 18, 1951, Mr. Matson was the son of the late Robert Pierce Matson and Mary Alice Biggs Parker. He worked in the grocery business and in food distribution during his career, employed by Grand Union (BigStar) and McKee Bakeries (Little Debbie). He was an avid gardener and loved growing Georgia native shade plants, hostas, lady slippers, and peonies. Mr. Matson also enjoyed the game of golf, both playing and watching it, and his beloved and loyal companion Bonnie Blue. He was a member of Ivy Creek Baptist Church in Buford.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Matson is preceded in death by father-in-law Col. James Lee Templeton, Jr. (U.S. Army Ret.), sister Suzanne Matson Carter, and his beloved dog Stella.
Mr. Matson is survived by wife Sharon Templeton Matson of Baldwin, son Nathan James Matson (Marian) of Baldwin, daughters Whitney Brook Matson of Jackson, Wyoming and Mary Dean Chevalier (James) of Lawrenceville, mother-in-law Dianne Templeton of Lula, brother Robert Pierce Matson of West Virginia, and grandchildren James Gage Chevalier, Caspian Alexander Chevalier, Anastasia Dawn Gasque, and Gwynever Raine Matson.
A memorial service will be held at the Ivy Creek Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 2500 Ivy Creek Rd, NE, Buford, Georgia on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.
