Arlene Carlan Whiting, age 87 of Demorest, Georgia took her heavenly flight home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
Born at the “Charm House” in Clarkesville, Georgia on January 29, 1935, she was a daughter of the late John William & Lila Magnolia Nix Carlan. Arlene was a professional seamstress and the owner of Arlene’s & Arturo’s Alterations for over 30 years. She was Mom, Mama, Mother, Nanny, & friend to many. She expressed her love for others by sharing her craft of cooking meals, baking goodies, and making quilts. In her spare time, Arlene enjoyed trips to the beach, working in her flower gardens, and watching the Atlanta Braves. Most of all, she loved spoiling her family, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and others that she considered as family. Arlene was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Whiting; son, Jerry Lamar Whiting; sisters, Linda Abernathy, Manolia Bowden, JoAnn Taylor, Myra Bohannon; & brother, Jerry Carlan.
Survivors include her children, Kay Whiting Stephens & Guy Fitzgerald of Demorest, GA; Johnny & Debbie Whiting of Turnerville, GA; Rick & Pam Whiting of Mount Airy, GA; sister-in-law, Kristy Carlan; brother-in-law, Dewaine Bohannon both of Demorest, GA; grandchildren, Shane & Misty McEntyre; Wendy & David Newsome; Casey Whiting; Julie & Nelson Wilkinson; Niki & Bradley Smith; great-grandchildren, Alex McEntyre, Lauren McEntyre, Wyatt Turner, Lana Turner, Rylee Smith, Hallee Smith, Nelson Charles Wilkinson, Sarah Wilkinson, Jacob Wilkinson, Lily Whiting, Addie Whiting, & Dylan Newsome; special friend & co-worker, Arturo Velazquez; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, & friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2022 at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Rev. Kenneth McEntire & Dr. Charles Holland officiating. Interment will follow in the Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest with Bishop Ronald Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. & from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
