Mildred Louise Gudger Smith, age 91 of Demorest, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022.
Born on March 28, 1931, in Turnerville, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Gudger and Belle May Gudger. She worked at Clarkesville Mills for a number of years before becoming a homemaker and babysitter. Mrs. Smith enjoyed family gatherings, canning and gardening. She was a member and taught Sunday school for 30 years at Fairfield Baptist Church and most recently attended Victory Baptist Church. Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished her family deeply.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Homer Smith; son, Charles Steve Smith; grandson, James Ronald Corn; brother, J.C. Gudger; and sisters, Ruth Mason and Thelma Thomas.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie Smith (Beverly), Doug Smith (Debbie), Brady Smith (Mary), all of Demorest; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila McCutcheon (Butch), Sherrie Colbert (Jeff), all of Demorest; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; sister, Doris Rigdon of Eastanollee; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 3 pm, Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Victory Baptist Church with Rev. Shane Jenkins and Rev. Keith Allison officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 pm on Saturday, May 21, 2022 and from 12 noon – 2 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
