Lynn Blalock Lancaster

Obituary Date: Friday, May 6, 2022

Lynn Blalock Lancaster died peacefully on Friday, May 6, 2022, surrounded by her family, after a courageous seven year battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Lynn was originally from Cleveland, Georgia, where she graduated with honors from White County High School, before moving to Gainesville to attend Brenau University. While living on campus she became a sorority member of Alpha Chi Omega. After her freshman year, she married Joey Lancaster of Gainesville, whom she had dated during high school, after first meeting at a summer youth camp, years earlier. Lynn went on to complete her double major at Brenau, graduating Magna Cum Laude, while attending Brenau, she also worked in their admissions office.

Joey had the opportunity to purchase Lancaster Music shortly after he and Lynn married. Several years later, after their two children started school, Lynn became very active in the business on a daily basis. She worked hard to transition the store’s bookkeeping to computer systems and continued there until she became ill. The music store provided them many opportunities to  visit the White House and Camp David, including decorating the White House at Christmas.

Over her lifetime Lynn enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries, teaching Sunday School, later teaching at the youth camp where she and Joey had met, and spending time at the cabin they owned at that campground. Lynn often donated her time to the schools her children attended receiving recognition from both Enota Elementary and Gainesville Middle School.

Lynn was preceded in death by her son, John, who passed away on his 43rd. birthday on May 1, 2020, and also by her parents, Talmadge and Doris Blalock of Cleveland. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Joey, daughter, Emily Barron of Gainesville, and her granddaughters whom she adored, Olivia Lancaster of Nashville and Caroline Barron of Gainesville. Lynn is also survived by her two brothers, Sid Blalock of Cornelia and Terry Blalock of Cleveland.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm outside the Mausoleum at Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, where she will be entombed. The family will greet friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the John Lancaster Memorial Scholarship Fund, University of North Georgia, P.O. Box 1599, Dahlonega, GA 30533.

The family would like to extend a tremendous thank you to the amazing and caring staff of The Resting Nest.
