Hoyt Leander Hooper

Hoyt Leander Hooper, age 86, of Cornelia, Georgia passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Mr. Hooper was born on February 20, 1936 in Rabun Gap, Georgia to the late Cort and Lassie Mae Love Hooper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothy Hooper Moore, Otee Hooper Marsengill, Vida Mae Hooper; and a brother, Hubert Hooper. Hoyt was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Mr. Hooper was a United States Army Veteran serving from December 1958 through December 1960, during the Peace Time. He was retired from Lee Arrendale Correctional Institute with 34 years of service. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Cornelia. Hoyt was an avid fisherman and also loved to take morning walks.  

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Jerry H. Hooper; son and daughter-in-law, Eric Hoyt Hooper and Cindy L. Hooper; a granddaughter, Emma L. Hooper; sisters-in-law, Vivian Davis (Jack); Janie Bingham (Eddie); brother-in-law, Vernon L. Henry; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2022 at the Yonah Memorial Gardens with Rev. Steve Doran, Dr. David Turner, and Rev. Nathan LaShoto officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cornelia, P.O. Box 96, Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
