Charles Franklin Barnes

Obituary Date: Wednesday, May 4, 2022

Charles Franklin Barnes, 61, of Gainesville, GA passed away peacefully on April 18 after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
Charles was born to Joan and Benjamin Barnes on December 24, 1960 in Gainesville, GA. When Charles was a young man, his family made a move from the Gainesville area to the Bay Area and San Leandro, California where they spent the better part of his youth. Shortly before his graduation from high school, they returned home to Gainesville.

Charles graduated from North Hall High School where he lettered as a member of the varsity football team. After high school, he went on to take classes at both Gainesville College and Lanier Tech before kickstarting a forty-year career with Norton Construction Products and Kubota Manufacturing. Charles finished out his impressive career as a highly ranked and respected manager at Kubota.

Charles was a loving husband to his wife, Jacqueline and an amazing father to his three sons, Zachary, Andrew and Robert. He will also be remembered as a loving “Poppy” to his grandchildren Ollie and Owen.

Apart from being an avid family man, Charles enjoyed the outdoors and could frequently be found at his cabin in Helen, GA fishing or grilling out with family and friends. Charles was an excellent carpenter. He handwrought much of the furniture in both of his homes and was commissioned on numerous occasions by family, friends and the general public. Charles was also known for his ability to “fix” just about anything and spent countless hours throughout the years in his automotive shop alongside his sons.

Charles offered up whatever time he had freely and could always be counted on by family and friends. Perhaps most importantly, Charles taught his three sons what it meant to be a father. He will be greatly missed.

Charles is predeceased by his father, Benjamin and his brother, Timmy. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his three sons, Zachary, Andrew and Robert; his mother, Joan and brother, Glenn. Charles is also survived by his nephews Timmy and Eric. He is also survived by several other loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held in his memory on Saturday, June 18 (Father’s Day Weekend). More details from family members forthcoming.
