Mary Annette Powell Sale

Obituary Date: Wednesday, April 27, 2022

Mary Annette Powell Sale, 84, of Clermont, GA, (September 29, 1937 - April 27, 2022) was born to Raleigh Foy Powell and Rose Jordan Powell in Atlanta, GA. Annette graduated from North Fulton High School and attended Hollins College, University of Colorado, and the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. After graduation, she was employed as a social worker and placed children for adoption. She spent family vacations with extended family in Eufaula, AL and Panama City, FL, where she met Thomas Sale, Jr. and raised their five children. While in Panama City, she worked tirelessly as a patient advocate at the United Cerebral Palsy Center and as a recruiter at Snelling Staffing Services. Annette returned to Atlanta, where she worked with the family-owned Powell Cleaners and then with Families First, Georgia’s largest family & children’s services organization. She remained devoted to her parents through their final years, and eventually retired in the North Georgia Mountains.

People were drawn to Annette’s selfless, unconditional love.  She never met a stranger and was well known for genuinely caring about others and doing what she could to help people in need. She loved life, babies, flowers, music and dancing, and Southern cooking and hospitality. Her welcoming smile lit up the room and her words were positive, uplifting, encouraging and kind. She embodied the directive “Let your light so shine….” (Matthew 5:16 KJV).

Annette was preceded in death by her brothers, Raleigh Foy Powell, Jr. and Robert Angus Powell, and her precious son, Thomas Davis Sale, III.  She is survived by her children Rebecca Sale Henderson of Cumming, GA, Rosemary Sale Holcomb and husband Scott of Marietta, GA, Robert Sale and wife Ann Marie of Panama City, FL, and Raleigh Sale of Panama City, FL; her grandchildren Claire Quartemont and husband David, Kelly Holcomb, Corinne Henderson, Kathryn Holcomb, Kimberly Holcomb, Thomas Holcomb, McKenzie Sale, Robert Sale, Jr., Thomas Sale, IV, Reagan Sale, Frasier Sale, and Vivian Sale; her great-grandchild Luca Quartemont; Marie Steinsberger of Clermont, GA, and other close friends who were like family.
