Carolyn (Carrie) Theresa Peacock

Obituary Date: Thursday, April 21, 2022
Carolyn (Carrie) Theresa Peacock (née Sarosick) passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Hospital in Gainesville, GA, following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Stanley and Christina Sarosick, she was born on November 30, 1936 in NYC and raised in Worcester, MA. She was predeceased by her younger sister Marlene, whom she adored.
As a young girl, Carrie enjoyed singing and dancing and was a talented performer. As a teen she was a member of the Police Athletic League providing after school activities to inner city children. Also an avid swimmer, she taught swim lessons to many in her community.
Carrie was awarded a full academic scholarship to Regis College where she earned a BS in Chemistry. While studying for her Masters in Geochemistry, she served as secretary to the Director of the Weston Seismic Observatory and the Chairman of the Department of Geology at Boston College. This is where she met G. Raymond Peacock, they married in 1960
By 1975, the family grew to include seven children who were Carrie’s greatest pride. They shared an active life in Levittown, PA where she served as a den mother to both girl and boy scouts and sang in the church choir. She handmade much of her children’s clothing and was known as an excellent cook. Her famous Beef Wellington with Yorkshire Pudding at Christmastime is still a tradition today.
Carrie was a mother and homemaker until 1980 when she started her professional career at the cosmetics counter at JCPenney.  From there she grew into a role at Jones New York in Bristol, PA where she was proud to work as assistant to the designer, Rena Rowan.
Carrie was “Mrs. P” to the neighborhood kids and “Ma” or “Mama” to many who she nurtured through difficult times. Having overcome many challenges in her own life, Carrie was empathetic and generous to those in need. She often opened her home to women in the community who needed a soft place to land and created an ever-growing extended family.
Carrie had a taste for the finer things in life, and worked hard to spoil her kids “nice”, as she said.  After all her years of hard work, she was able to retire to Leesburg, FL in the Hawthorne community.  Carrie was full of energy and loved to laugh, she served her neighbors as Activities Coordinator, provided transportation to those who could no longer drive, shared her delicious home-cooked meals, and honed her skills at cutting hair.  She was in many groups, most notably the “The Red Hats Society”, “36ers, Club”, “PA Club”, and the “Welcoming Committee”. She made many friends in Hawthorne and will be missed by them all.
Carrie lived her life without regret, she never looked backward, she took her lessons and applied them to new experiences.  She lived on her own terms with a passion for all things fun.  She loved word puzzles, especially Wheel of Fortune and Murder Mystery series, with a special fondness for NCIS and Homicide Hunter with Joe Kenda.
Her penchant for joking and silliness is well-known as well as her long list of catchphrases, lovingly called Momisms. If you ever spoke with her, you likely heard such phrases as “The older I get the more I know, I don’t know” or “All we can do is the best we can do”.  We have no doubt that as Mom pulls up to the Pearly Gates of Heaven she will exclaim, “Home again, home again. Jiggity Jig”.
Her seven children remain to cherish her memory: Stephen Peacock, Michael (Lisa) Peacock, Matthew Peacock, Theresa Phayre, Mary Sturgill (Jerry), Sarah Elia (Michael), and Christina Fernandez (Yamel). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kaleigh, Whitney, Tom, Andi, Zoe, Connor, Danielle and Savannah and great-grandchildren: Iris, Ivy, Milo, Sammy & Vincent.
