Cecil Cheek was born on June 6, 1942 in Flowery Branch, GA as the fifteenth child, to the late John Cheek and Anna (Harrison) Cheek. He passed away on Friday, April 22, 2022. He was preceded in death by thirteen siblings.
Cecil loved the Lord and his family very much. He also loved his church family and became a dedicated and faithful servant at an early age. He worked tirelessly as a member of the Board of Trustees, Deacon Board, Church Treasurer, and Facility overseer for many years.
Cecil attended Mt. Zion Elementary School, Fair Street School, and E.E. Butler High School in Gainesville, GA. In the early 60’s, he worked at Cheek’s Texaco Service Station on Athens Street. In the early 70’s, he worked as a Gainesville Police Officer, then later he worked with his brother, Grady at Cheek’s Transportation and Auto Shop. After a while, he started his own business called, Cheek’s Tune Up and Game Room. After being in business for several years, he sold the business and was employed by Crystal Farms as a supervisor. His last place of employment was with Walmart Auto (Oakwood) until his health started to decline.
Cecil leaves to cherish his memories to his lovely and devoted wife of almost sixty years, Brenda Christian Cheek; daughter, Juanita Cheeks of Conyers, GA; son, Kevin (Melissa) Cheeks of Flowery Branch, GA; five grandchildren, Joshua Q. Mahaffey of Conyers, GA, Alexis Cheeks of Lawrenceville, GA, C’Kevian Cheeks, DeShun Cheeks of Gainesville, GA, and Destiny Cheeks of Flowery Branch, GA; three great grandchildren, Mikayla, DeMari, and Desiree Cheeks of Gainesville, GA; bonus grandchildren, Tori, Paul, and Jordan; loving sister, Annie Lou Glasper of Gainesville, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday April 29, 2022 at 12 noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Thursday April 28, 2022 from 2pm-7:30pm at Dexter T. Sims Mortuary, LLC in The Rev. Charlie, Jr. and Conchita Sims Memorial Chapel. The family will receive family and friends from 6pm-7:30pm.
