Robert (Bobby) Wakefield Chambers, Jr., 80 died April 15 at NGMC.
A Hall County native, Bobby is predeceased by his parents, Bob and Gladys Chambers and his sister, Sissy Chambers Pledger.
The soft-spoken “poppy” was adored by his family and friends. He was a kind, patient, and doting husband, father and grandfather. Bobby was the second of four generations of GHS Red Elephants to play on Bobby Gruhn Field. He attended Young Harris College and graduated from the University of Georgia with a business degree. He met his wife, Patti, while in college. They were married 58 years; you rarely thought of one without thinking of the other. He began his professional career with family-owned Chambers Lumber Company before starting a successful residential and commercial construction company. Bobby was also a successful realtor with Patti for 43 years.
For years Bobby was a role model to countless youth as a coach of football and baseball. You could always find him cheering on his children and grandchildren regardless of the sport. He never missed a game.
Bobby is survived by his wife, Patti Jenkins Chambers, son, Robert (Sally) Chambers, III, daughter, Sally (Karry) Kirchner and five grandchildren, Catherine Chambers, Robert (Wake) Chambers, IV, Charlie Kirchner, Sam Kirchner and Jack Kirchner, brothers-in-law Ed Pledger and Tom Battle, sister-in-law Marilyn Thomasson, Bonnie Jenkins and Jo Jenkins and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private interment will be at the Alta Vista Cemetery with Dr. Bill Coats officiating.
