John Lee Bethune, III passed away Saturday, April 9, 2022, at the age of 76. Lee was born at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA July 6, 1945. He graduated from Georgia Tech as a Mechanical Engineer and owned his own business, McGoff-Bethune, Inc. He was an avid golfer, playing at the furthest points in the U.S.A.---the highest, the lowest, east, west, Northern and Southern courses. Now he is playing at our Lord’s course. In addition to his golfing, Lee loved skiing, learning to fly and being with his family. He enjoyed his grandchildren and summer vacations. Lee always loved to laugh and good times, especially a good scotch.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, John Lee Bethune, Jr. and Carolyn Bethune; his wife of 52 years, Dorothy P. Bethune.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Carr Bethune; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sophia I. Bethune and their children, Tabitha Lynn and Zachary James Bethune; son and daughter-in-law, James P. and Kristen Bethune; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Paige and Earl Harshbarger and their children, Dylan, Hailey, Bryce and Madeline; son-in-law, Bradley Lane Elliott; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Dike and Jordan Uka and their children, Garrett, Bailey, Kosirisochi, daughter-in-law, Maisie; son-in-law, Miles; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Holly and Johnathan Raider and their children, Leighton, Savannah, Ryland, Hudson, Scarlett, Celeste and Sicily; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Kip and Bridget Nelson and their children, Elliott, Elijah, Reece and Ellis; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Lauren Elliott and Daniel and children, Vivian and Evan; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Matt and Blair Asay and their children, Elise, Charlotte, Vera, John and Naomi; son-in-law, Kenneth Alfaro; and daughter-in-law, Mia Alfaro and her child, Iris Rose; siblings, Anne Ramsey and her husband, Steve; Carol Bethune; Mary Sue Behnken and her husband, J.B.
A Celebration of Lee’s life will be held Saturday, April 16, at 1:00 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathaniel Long officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home the hour prior to the service.
