Mr. John "Jack" Albert Smoot Sr., age 83 of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2022 following a long period of declining health. He was born on January 5, 1939 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland to the late Marvin and Geraldine Smoot.
Jack was a man of many interest and talents. He was a writer, a teacher, a traveler, an investigator, a historian, a photographer, a humanitarian and a instigator. Those who knew him best will remember him as a "mover and a shaker". He as a proud veteran of the US ARMY and was a member of the American Legion in Dahlonega. He also had a large hand in creating and maintaining the Veteran Memorial Marker program that lines the streets of Dahlonega every year around Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and July 4th. He was a 20 + year member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 38 F&AM, where he served as the Master of the Lodge in 2004.
He was a family man and always enjoyed a good adventure with his wife Mary. Often times, he and his kids or grandkids could be found out and about traveling or finding some kind of adventure. More than any of his talents and interest, his family was his pride and joy. The biggest part of Jacks heart was dedicated to his family.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Smoot; children, John A Smoot Jr. (Marie), Cassandra McKenna, Jason Smoot, and Robert Wallace II (Nadine); sister, Marie Middleton; grandchildren, Ashley Herrera (Adrian), John Smoot III (Courtney), Joseph McKenna (Kayla), Samuel McKenna, Christopher Williams, Carter Wallace, Ean Wallace (Madeleine), Gwynth Wallace, Alexandria Wallace, and Aiden Wallace; great grandchildren, Bobby Marie Herrera, Olivia McKenna and Addlynn McKenna. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, April 7, 2022 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Dahlonega Memorial Park with Military and Masonic Honors being presented.
