Chuck Guthrie

Obituary Date: Wednesday, March 16, 2022

Chuck Guthrie, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 after a very courageous 10 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was an inspiration to us all. Son of Anthony and Theodora Guthrie, Chuck was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 18, 1935.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat and their wonderful children and spouses Peggy and Chris Sanders and Tommy and Shaleen Guthrie. Chuck was Grandpa to Tiara Guthrie and Papa to Joseph and Evelyn Sanders. He was extremely proud of his children and loved, supported, and encouraged them as they lived their own unique lives and built their beautiful families. He had a very special love for his grandchildren and he delighted in watching Pat’s joy in being their Grammy.

Chuck lived his life with abounding energy and generosity and approached everything with an enthusiastic and positive outlook.  In over 20 years as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Victor Equipment Company not one salesperson left the team. This is an example of the impact of Chuck’s caring leadership and his ability to motivate and inspire. He continued his career as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Harris Calorific, in Gainesville, Ga. until his retirement in 1996. Chuck was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church where he had served on the Vestry.

Chuck often said that his volunteer work with Challenged Child and Friends, now Sisu, was one of the most fun and meaningful times of his retirement. From 1997 until his final weeks of life, he advocated to bring understanding and support “For the Kids’! Chuck developed countless relationships that helped build the nonprofit agency’s facility that opened in 2000. Throughout his life Chuck’s sense of humor and indomitable spirit endeared him to others. He loved to make people laugh and was notorious for his corny jokes and “one liners.”  Pat called them his “third-grade jokes!” Chuck and Pat’s favorite activity was time spent with friends, especially in their home when Chuck was the grill master!

Chuck continues to help others though the donation of his body to Emory University School of Medicine Body Donation Program.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church.   In honor of his many years of dedication to Challenged Child and Friends, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Sisu of Georgia, Inc., P.
