Rev. Jesse Lee Browning

Rev. Jesse Lee Browning, age 90, of Helen, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.

Rev. Jesse was born on February 25, 1932, to the late Grover and Nancy Exum Browning.  He served in the Korean War from 1948 – 1952 and after returning home he started working for the Georgia Forestry.  On June 4, 1955, he married Ernestine Nix Browning.  In the late 50s he started working at UGA Experiment Station in Tifton, Georgia, and in 1965 he moved his family to Reidsville, Georgia to work at UGA Experiment Station Dairy & Feed Mill Division at Georgia State Prison, where he later retired.  During the time he was living in Reidsville, he was licensed to preach on January 24, 1971, and was ordained on July 9, 1972.  He has pastored many churches and also attended Georgia Southern College where he graduated from Georgia Baptist Bible Institute through Shorter College with a diploma in Theology and Christian Ministry.  He later received his master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry.  He had a 15-minute sermon at WRBX radio station on Sunday Mornings before attending church.

In addition to his parents, Jesse was preceded in death by his brothers, Grover Page (Buck) Browning, Jr., James Barney (JB) Browning, Nelson Robert Browning, Jesse Robert Browning; sister, Effie Lee Vickers.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Browning; children, Charles Stanley Browning, Brenda (Robert) Swiatko, and Earl P. Browning; sister, Ludell (Donnis) Williams; brothers, Russell Browning and Buddy Browning; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Britt, Jamie (Paula) Swiatko, Jesse Thomas Swiatko, Jayla Swiatko (Matthew Grainger), Sarah (Jesse) James, Blake Browning; great-grandchildren, Harley, Dakota, Zoey Britt, Luke Swiatko, Maddie Swiako, Jessie Kicklighter, Landan, Bently, Wyatt, James, and Stella Browning.

Funeral services are scheduled for 6 PM Friday, March 25, 2022 at the Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Drewery Loggings will officiate.  Interment will follow at Pine View Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 6 PM Friday, March 25, 2022 at the funeral home.
