Sidney Martin Darling

Sidney Martin Darling was born on October 7, 1945, in Little Falls New York to Sidney Arthur Darling and Leona (Eberle) Darling.  Sidney is one of nine children.  Sid graduated in 1963 from Dolgeville Central School.  After he graduated, he enlisted in the Army.  He was stationed in France where he was on a traveling basketball team.  In October 1966, Sid was discharged honorably from the Army.  
When he came back home, he started work at North Hudson Woodcraft.  He then started working at Remington Arms in the factory while furthering his education.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Business Management in 1976 from State University of New York SUNYIT in Utica, New York.  Sid then moved into the Remington Arms Accounting Department, where he left after 20 years of employment.  Sid was also Mayor of Dolgeville from 1981 - 1984.  
In the summer of 1985, Sid and his family moved to the Atlanta Georgia metro area.  He retired in 2008.
Sid married Joan Hewatt on April 4th, 1992, in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  They are best friends and have had a loving relationship for over 30 years.  Together, they have enjoyed traveling, sports and lots of family time.  He enjoyed every sport, but his favorites were golf, baseball (Atlanta Braves), Football (Atlanta Falcons), College Basketball (Syracuse Orangemen) and college football (Georgia Tech).

His Children:  Sons, Sean (Karroll) McGregor, NC and Jason Darling, Buford and Daughters, Laura (Eric) Byard, Dolgeville NY, Jennifer (Karim) Al-Amin, Sugar Hill 
Grandchildren:  Kory Byard, Flowery Branch, Cydney Darling (Sugar Hill), Sabrina Al-Amin (Sugar Hill), Sophia Al-Amin (Sugar Hill), Linden Al-Amin (Sugar Hill), Lacey Al-Amin (Sugar Hill), Davyn Sagonia-Darling, Theodore McGregor, Nola McGregor Aiden Litton and William McGregor, 
Great Grandchildren:  Jalen Al-Amin
Surviving Family Members:  Sisters, Leona (Lisa) Matthews and Donna Boyer Bulluck of Dolgeville, NY
And a host of nieces and nephews that span across the United States

Sid battled cancer and was in home hospice care where he passed peacefully with his family beside him on the evening of Sunday March 20, 2022.  Sid will be remembered for his love of life, family, cooking breakfast for his whole family and being outdoors.  He loved a well-kept lawn, trips in the summer to Florida with the grands and enjoying the simple things in life.  Family graveside service will be at Sid’s final resting place, White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, Georgia, Thursday March 24th.
