Kelso Crowder "Casey" Horne, Jr.

Obituary Date: Saturday, March 19, 2022

Mr. Kelso Crowder "Casey" Horne Jr., age 77, of Dahlonega, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022.

On July 18, 1944, he was born in Dublin, Georgia, to the late Kelso Crowder Horne Sr. and Doris Garner Horne. Upon graduating high school in Dublin, Casey went to Journalism school at the University of Georgia. He then worked in Dublin at the Dublin Courier Herald. He then decided to join the military, where he would proudly serve his nation in the US ARMY for 22 years, retiring as a Major. While in the Army, Casey received his master’s degree from Webster University. Deciding to continue his education, he and his first wife, June, decided to go to the University of Georgia again to obtain their Doctorate degrees in Law. They decided to move to Dahlonega and open a law practice, where he worked from 1983 until 2017, when he retired. Casey was also a private pilot instructor as well as an NRA instructor. He was very proud to have been able to serve his county and was extremely proud of his boys for following in his footsteps. Kelso III retired from the Army as a Colonel; Vaughn is a Border Patrol Agent in Texas, and Justin is an A-10 APG instructor in the Air Force.

Casey's family will forever remember him as being a kind, gentle man who never spoke a mean word to anyone. He was a patient man and was honest with everyone about everything. He was a man with a foundation built upon strong moral ethics and integrity. He was the best husband, dad, and "granddaddy" that his family could have ever been blessed with.
In addition to his parents, Casey is preceded in death by his first wife, June Edgins Horne.

He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Susan Wagner of Dahlonega; sons and daughters-in-law, Kelso Crowder Horne III (Netty) of Maryland, Vaughn Gordon Horne (Petra) of Texas, and Justin Wagner Coleman Horne (Sierra) of Nashville, Georgia; and grandchildren, Katie June, Kelso Crowder IV, Doris Mae, Jessica, Vanessa, and Mathew.

Private family services will be held with interment taking place at Dahlonega Memorial Park.
