Mr. William (Bill) Lawrence Hollinshead, died peacefully at his home in Gainesville, Georgia on March 4, 2022. Mr. Hollinshead was born in 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late John Roberson Hollinshead and Elizabeth Tanksley Hollinshead. After graduating from Hillsboro High School, then receiving his Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Tennessee in 1957, he subsequently worked in instrumentation design, digital electronics, and finally guidance systems design for tunnel boring machines. Besides working for Arnold Engineering Development Center, Laser Systems and Electronics, Wild-Herrbrugg, Ltd, and Leicia, Inc., he also founded two companies, Precision International, Inc. and Precision Centerline, Inc.
In 2012 at the age of 77, Mr. Hollinshead retired from a lifetime career serving as an engineer, inventor, businessman, avid photographer, and “fix-it” man. He moved with his wife, Kate, to Lanier Village Estates in Gainesville, Georgia. There he used hi entrepreneur skills and his love of engineering and photography in volunteer work.
Mr. Hollinshead is survived by his wife, Katherine Barnett Hollinshead of Gainesville, GA; sons, David Lawrence Hollinshead of Tullahoma, TN, and Mark William Hollinshead and his wife, Cheryl, of Murfreesboro, TN, and step-daughter, Pamela Chapman Self and her husband, David of Roswell, GA; grandchildren, Jordan Vaughn Hollinshead, Jackson William Hollinshead, and Evan Wesley Self; brother, Warren H. Hollinshead, and his wife Glenda of Oak Ridge, TN, brother-in-law Thomas D. Barnett and his wife Cecilia of Matthews, NC.
A private graveside service will be held in Washington, GA, at a future date.
