Kenneth Smith

Obituary Date: Tuesday, March 1, 2022

Our beloved Mr. Kenneth Smith affectionately called “Kenny” was born on April 1, 1956 to the late Mr. & Mrs. Luther(Dorothy Carr) Smith in Walton County, Monroe, Georgia. Kenneth is preceded in death by two brothers Mr. Stanley Smith and Mr. Gregory Smith, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther (Maude Johnson)Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Levi (Annie Hendricks)Carr. Kenny attended Walton County Public Schools and received his diploma. He was an all-around sportsman. During his High School years, he was an extraordinary football player receiving many letters of intent from college institutions such as Duke University, North Carolina, University of Tennessee, University of Kansas, Grambling State and Albany University and several other HBCUs. He also participated in track and field as a distant shotput thrower and played baseball with a semi pro -baseball team known as the Monroe Bombers. After graduating from High School, he became employed with the Monroe Cotton Mills for 30 years until he retired. Kenny was a very dedicated and hard-working employee. A gentle giant with a big heart for everyone especially his family. Kenny was humble, always slow to speak but quick to listen, very soft spoken and a simple person. He loved his family and his community. He demonstrated his love for his community by growing fresh vegetables every season and sharing them with others. Kenny could grow anything -he was a “Master Gardener”. After the passing of his father, Kenny kept the legacy going with being the community’s’ gardener. He was known for being the go-to guy for fresh collard greens during the holiday seasons. Kenny would always look out for the elderly and others who were interested in fresh home-grown vegetables. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with his brothers watching football and basketball games, playing cards, etc. One of his favorite hobbies was collecting antique items. He also enjoyed the company of his cousins the Booker boys and Torris (Oodie)Broughton spending quality time with them. Kenny will be missed by his family and the community dearly. On March 1, 2022, Kenny departed this earthly life leaving fond memories in the hearts of many, but most fondly in the hearts of his siblings: his sisters Cynthia Brown, Deborah Smith, and Rev. Carlos (Malisa) Thompson; his brothers Luther Smith III (Robbie Giles), Perry Smith and Ronnie (Sandra)Smith. His nephews Anthony B. (Lisa) Smith, Maurice A.(Kourtney) Smith, Gregory (Erika) Smith, Jr., Kendall Wyatt, and Carlos J. Thompson, his nieces Corey (Valarie)Platt, Larry (Monica) Johnson, Shayla S. Smith, Jessica D. Thompson, Quandra J. Smith, and Carlissa M. Thompson. A very special friend Ms. Barbara Norman. The visitation will be held Monday March 7th between the hours of 12-8pm at Young-Levett in Monroe. Mr. Smith's Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday March 8th at 12noon in the Chapel of Young-Levett in Monroe. Professional Service Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
