Marjorie Mae Woody

Obituary Date: Wednesday, March 2, 2022

Mrs. Marjorie "Judy" Mize Woody, age 98, of Dahlonega, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 following an extended illness. She was born in Logan County, Oklahoma on August 7, 1923 to the late Willie E. Mize and the late Darlene Wright Mize.

Upon graduating high school in 1941, she attended Nurses Training at Oklahoma General Hospital, graduating as a registered nurse in 1944. In April 1945, in the midst of World War II, she joined the Army Nurses Corp. She was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant. Upon completion of basic training, she was sent to India. While in India, she met and fell in love with Charlie Woody, who was a medic. In 1946, they were sent back to the states. She went to Fort Sam Houston and Charlie went to Fort Benning. Later that year, they reunited and married. Together, they lived in Oklahoma for many years, where they owned and operated Woody's Senior Citizen Home. In 1974 they bought a farm and moved back to Dahlonega. Judy then went to work for Pine Tree (Mohawk), where she retired. Judy treasured her time in the service and talked about many of her adventures often. She was overwhelmed several years ago when she was recognized by Lumpkin County Veteran Affairs as the oldest living veteran in Lumpkin County.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie Woody; sister Ima Jean Mize Mullens; and brother Cecil Mize.

She is survived by her son, Gerald Woody; sister Billie Holthaus; nephew Steve (Marcia) Hawk; great nephews Kristopher (Kristy) Manley, Marcus (Beth) Hawk, and Benjamin Hawk; very special "angel on earth" Julie Armstrong; numerous other nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.

Private graveside services will be held in the cemetery of Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Ricky Woody officiating and the Rev. Clifford Allen bringing words of comfort.

The family would like to say "thank you" to Hospice of Northeast Georgia for sending Rebecca to us. She has been a true blessing to our family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Woody. Donations can be sent to Antioch Baptist Church, 4632 Auraria Road, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533.
