Doris J. Enkemann (nee Kapp) passed away suddenly on February 28, 2022. Born in Ann Arbor Michigan to L. Herbert and Gladys K. Kapp, Doris grew up in Ann Arbor and was a “blue” fan. She graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School and later attended advanced bookkeeping school.
She met John (Jack) Enkemann in September of 1953 and they were married on June 4, 1954. Their life together included multiple moves: Ann Arbor, Adrian, Wyandotte, Ypsilanti, Detroit, Rochester, and West Bloomfield, Michigan as well as Barberton and Dayton Ohio, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, Salem, South Carolina and finally Gainesville, Georgia.
Doris loved to sew and this love introduced her to quilting which became her passion. All the quilts on the wall in the 3 East Sewing Room at Lanier Village Estates were hand stitched by Doris. “No machine quilting for me” was her motto. Some of her quilts have been judged
“Best in Show” in quilt shows.
She will be remembered for her friendly smile, her quick wit, and her gracious ways. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack. Four children - John Jr. of Northville,
Michigan, Steven of Greenville, South Carolina, Suzanne Hughes of Pinehurst, North Carolina and Kathryn Brancato of Hawthorne, New Jersey, five grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Doris was recently predeceased by her brother, Dean, on November 26, 2021.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 19 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Lanier Village Estates, 4000 Village View Drive, Gainesville, GA 30506. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
