Kay H. Hendrix, of Lawrenceville, Ga, 88, passed away on Monday, February 21st 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Gastonia, North Carolina and was the youngest of 7 children. He was preceded in death by his parents Jake and Carrie Hendrix, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Myrna, 3 daughters; Susan and her husband Amos, Joyce and her husband David, Karen and her partner Kristin, along with 7 grandchildren: Andrew, James, Joshua, Jarred, Aubrey, Kayla, and Faith.
Kay grew up on a farm in Charlotte, NC. He played football, baseball, and ran track for West Mecklenburg High School. He served in the Army as a Liaison Agent and he played on the Army traveling softball team.
He came home from the Army and married his high school sweetheart Myrna McGee on September 2nd, 1955. He was a wonderful father to his 3 daughters and an inspiration to his grandchildren.
He was always active as a deacon and played on the church softball team into his 60’s. He loved gardening, golfing, vacations at the beach and fishing with his brother.
Kay was a kind and gentle man with a servant’s heart. He is loved by all who knew him.
A Funeral Service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA, with by Rev. Bobby Linkous and Pastor Jared Rumley officiating. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Flanigan Funeral Home.
