Jerry Bernard Hood

Obituary Date: Monday, February 14, 2022

Jerry Bernard Hood, better known as “Hood” and a life-long resident of Gainesville, GA, gained his wings on February 14, 2022, at the age of 70.

Jerry was born on March 12, 1951, in Gainesville, GA to the late Eloise Dearing and John Calvin Hood. He was a proud graduate of E.E. Butler High School. Jerry was a businessman and a “Jack of many trades”. He had a special love for numbers, which landed him several roles in the Manufacturing and Production Industry. He retired after many years and later resided in Atlanta, GA for over twenty years.

Jerry loved old western movies, sports, and music. His warm demeanor was infectious and his laugh, a comfort to hear.

Jerry was a loving father, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He was well known, well respected, and greatly loved because he gave from the heart. He lived with joy, and he taught all who encountered him valuable life lessons. Jerry could be described as a leader - someone who didn’t make excuses, instead, he was someone who made a way despite life’s hardships and adversities. If you knew Jerry, you knew he was a jokester, the life of a conversation, and people loved his spirit. Although he lived a simple and happy life, it didn’t take much to make him smile. He found happiness in knowing that his family was taken care of and loved.

He is preceded in death by his loving mother, Eloise Dearing; his father, John Calvin Hood; one sister, Carol Sue Scruggs and a special niece, Sharon Hood.

He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved children, four daughters: Marquient Hood; Tywonna Whelchel-Payne; Monica Johnson all of Gainesville, GA; Metoi Booker (Jermaine Booker) of Bowie, MD; six loving grandchildren: Amir Hood, Kennedy Payne, Victor Payne Jr., Victoria Payne, Zya Young and Ethan Booker; one sister: April Diane Hood of Athens, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he adored. We will continue to honor his kindness, confidence, strength, and amazing sense of humor.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Antioch Baptist Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held Monday, February 21, 2022, between the hours of 12:00 PM-8:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
