The Honorable Robert Bryan Struble, Sr., age 90 of Toccoa passed away Friday, February 18, 2022.
A son of the late Carl Kenneth Struble and Winifred Lovelace Bryan Struble, he was born August 5, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey having been a resident of Toccoa for 74 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force JAG Corp having served almost three years. He was a Graduate of the University of Georgia Law School, a member of the Phi Kappa Phi and Editor-in-Chief, Case Notes, Georgia Bar Journal. He was a partner lawyer with the firm McClure, Ramsay, Struble and Dickerson for many years and as a lawyer, he served in many capacities: Member, Executive Committee, State Bar of Georgia; member, State Bar Board of Governors; President of Local and Circuit Bar Associations; President, University of Georgia Law School Association, Member, Board of Visitors, Georgia Law School; President, City Attorneys Section, Georgia Municipal Association; Member, State Bar Long-Range Planning Committee; member State Bench and Bar Committee; member, State Bar Disciplinary Board.
He served as a Superior Court Judge for 40 years. In his professional role as a Judge, he served in many capacities: President, County of Superior Court Judges; member, Judicial Council of Georgia; Sentence Review Panel; Administrative Judge, 9th Judicial District; member, State Commission on Children and Youth; member, Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council; Chair, Board of Trustees of Institute of Continuing Judicial Education; member, Judicial Qualification Commission for 8 years.
His Civic and Community Involvement included: President, Toccoa Rotary Club; President, Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce; Chair, Salvation Army Advisory Board; Chair, Stephens County United Fund; member, Executive Committee, Northeast Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America; Secretary, Stephens County Education Foundation; Trustee Piedmont College; member, Stephens County Courthouse Restoration Authority.
During his lifetime, he received many Honors: University of Georgia Law School Association Distinguished Service Scroll Award; Northeast Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award; 1980 “Family of the Year” awarded to the Struble Family by the Georgia Federated Woman’s Club; 1991 Stephens County Schools Hall of Fame; Distinguished Citizens Award, Boy Scouts; Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary Club; Lifetime Achievement Award, Stephens County.
He was a member of St. Matthias Episcopal where he served as Senior Warden; Vestry; Lay Reader; Eucharistic Minister; Sunday School Teacher; choir member.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Peggy Quisenberry Struble of the home; three children, Bryan (Julia) Struble of Ellijay, Georgia, Kenneth (Melanie) Struble of Toccoa and Dianne Struble Caso (Russ) of Sea Island, Georgia; grandchildren, John Andrew Smoltz, Jr., Robert Bryan Struble, III, (Destiny), Rachel VanderPol (Joel), Allie Williams (Brett), Matthew Struble, Trey Caso, Carly Smoltz, Kara Struble, Kelly Smoltz, Drew Caso, Jacob Struble and Ethan Brown; great-grandchildren, John Allen VanderPol and Jordan VanderPol.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 22, 2022, 12:00 p.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church with The Reverend Scott Harding officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, John Andrew Smoltz, Robert Bryan Struble, III, Matthew Struble and Jacob Charles Struble, William Irvine, Robert Boxer. Honorary pallbearers will be The Honorable Russell Smith, John Dickerson, Robert Evans, Allan Ramsay, Jerry Rose and Ben F. Cheek, III.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 995 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of The Honorable Robert Bryan Struble, Sr.
Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for The Honorable Robert Bryan Struble, Sr.
