Walter H. Martin

Walter H. “Papa Peanut” Martin, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022.

Born March 5, 1934 to the late Frank and Myrtleen Martin, he had lived in Lumpkin County since 1998 having moved from Forsyth County.  Mr. Martin retired as a truck driver for Leon Jones Trucking.  He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a Medic in Korea.  He enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved spending time with his family.  A member of Antioch Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Nell Martin, and a grandson.

Surviving are his wife, Renata K. Martin, Dawsonville; daughters and sons in law, Lenora and Phillip Maddox, Commerce, Kathleen Martin, Lula, Julia and Jeff Stone, Dahlonega, Hannah and Shaw Lane, Cleveland; sons and daughter in law, Howard Martin, Jasper, Klaus and Christina Kraus, Dawsonville; 19 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; 4 sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 2 o’clock at Antioch Baptist Church.  Rev. Ruel McKinney and Rev. Bobby Whitmire will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Antioch Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 2 until 8 at the funeral home.
