Joy Mixer, 82, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022 at her residence.
Born July 24, 1939 in Thomaston, GA to the late Sidney and Frances Johnson, she moved to Dawson County in 1999 from Sebring, FL. She was formerly employed by Bausch & Lomb and Robertson Optical. For 10 years, along with her husband they owned Winterset Motel in Sebring. After moving to Dawsonville, she was employed at CVS Pharmacy. Joy and her husband were caretakers of Lumpkin Campground and were very active volunteers at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mack Mixer.
Surviving are her daughters and sons in law, Karen and Raleigh Estes, Sanford, FL, Janet and Michael Pugh, Dawsonville, Christine Mixer and Marc Flores, Live Oak, FL; brothers and sisters in law, Frank and Jean Johnson, Dasher, FL, Freddie and Peggy Johnson, Gainesville, FL; grandchildren, Michelle Osborn, Audra Osborn, Heather Fauley, Chris Mixer, Amanda Menezes, Laura and Jon Warner, Jimmy and Raven Menezes; great grandchildren, Jacob Boylan, Juliana Boylan, Yuri Smith, Brandon Mixer, Tyler Mixer, Syle Smith, Seven Sawyer, Kinsley Warner, J. J. Menezes, Ezra Menezes, and Declan Farley.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 27, 2022 at 3 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. David Sanders will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
