Ann S. Bennett, wife of Doug Bennett, and mother of Julie Ann, Kim and Sam, passed away Saturday night, the 19th at 7pm, surrounded by her husband and grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, not only to her own but was foster mother to more than 100 foster children in the Columbus, Ga area. She served as a pastor’s wife in Florida, Kentucky, in the Columbus area, and in the mountains. Doug served in local churches and in other ministries. As of late she was deeply involved at Cleveland First Baptist, serving as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and children’s choir director. She was a wonderful musician, pianist for numerous groups and churches. She loved to sing as a soloist and in choirs.
She sang and served as president of the Jubalheirs, a ministry of the Georgia Baptist Convention on numerous tours across the nation, in Europe, and Russia. She also sang with the Atlanta Symphony Chorus for years and spoke of her Grammy awards she received with the chorus and with the help of her assistant, Dr. Robert Shaw. She served as a secretary at Truett-McConnell’s music program and at the Georgia Baptist Convention. She served many roles to many people, but to her children we simply remember her as a wonderful mom who led us to be the best Christians we could be, the best people we could be. Dad’s simple description of her is that she was “faithful and true”. That we can all agree.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Julie Ann and Dale Welsh, daughter, Kimberly Ann Bennett, son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Stephanie Bennett, grandchildren, Emily Rye, Bill Rye, Rachael Dillard, Derek Dillard, Samuel Bennett, Danika Bennett, Joseph and Emily Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Nathan Welsh. Rebekah and Jeff Canterbury, Jonathan and Victoria Welsh, Elizabeth and Shelby Chastain, Aaron Welsh, Joel Welsh, Tyler Bennett, and Samantha Williams, great grandchildren; Jackson Dillard, Adalyn Dillard, Barrett Dillard Lawson Dillard, and Tripp Rye.
She is preceded in death by her parents William Dwight Sporing and Eunice Scott Sporing.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3PM Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Cleveland First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dennis Turner will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 2pm – 3pm Wednesday at the church.
