Leo Raymond Dunaway passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 96, in Dacula, Georgia. He was born in South Shore, Kentucky on November 27, 1925.
Leo was preceded in death by his father Richard Dunaway, mother Pearl Dunaway; brothers and sisters, Joseph, Kenneth, Donald, Jeanette, and Clara Lee; first wife Wilma Dunaway; daughter Patricia Pitsinger, son-in-law Tom Pitsigner.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Wilknson - Dunaway of Buford, Georgia, son Jerry Dunaway (Mindy) of Dacula, Georgia; four grandchildren, Mike Pitsinger, Tawyna Pitsinger; Drake Dunaway, Kyle Dunaway (Natalie); three great grandchildren, James Dunaway, Andrew Dunaway, and Luna Dunaway; sister Joyce Cubine; step-son Glenn Wilkinson (Pam); and a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
In 1946 Leo married the love of his life, Wilma Newby and were married for 63 years. In 2012, Leo found love once again with Mary Ellen Wilkinson. They were married for 10 years.
Leo was a World War II Navy Veteran and served in the South Pacific. He retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio. He was a devout Christian who was faithful to God, church and family. Everyone who knew Leo enjoyed his quick wit and ever present humor. Leo had a love for reading that followed him throughout his life. His knowledge of the Bible reflected that. He dearly loved the “Solomon’s Porch” Sunday school class where he made good friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 5, 2022 at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church in Dacula, Georgia with Pastor Jason Mincey officiating. Service will begin at 1:00 pm.
