Edward Ray Moore

Edward Ray Moore, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2022, at the age of 75 after a lengthy illness. One of six siblings, Ed was born in Belmont, Ohio, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Moore.

After graduating from Union High School in Columbus, Ohio, Ed was drafted into the Army and shipped to Korea to serve as a sergeant in the artillery unit.  Following his discharge, Ed returned home to Columbus and enrolled in the Ohio State University to study industrial design.

Not long after, Ed met his future wife, Ann Quarrier. After Ed graduated from Ohio State, the couple married and moved to Atlanta, Georgia where their children, Missy and Andy were born. Ed began his career as a store planner with JC Penney, later moving to Miller Zell in the early 1980s.

A career change for Ed came in the early 1990s when he moved into the world of financial planning and insurance sales.  With his new career came more free time to share Ann’s love and passion for horses. This led to many springs, summers and falls traveling as a family to horse shows around the southeast. As they became more involved in the horse industry, Ed and Ann joined the team that helped put on Atlanta’s two largest horse shows, Pro-Am and Southeastern, helping through sponsorships and volunteering their time in the various committees and planning.  Ed loved driving his road horses and road ponies any chance he could, his favorite being World Grand Champion I’ve Arrived.  He soon joined the American Road Horse and Pony Association, serving as president for several years and recently selected to be in both the Hall of Fame for Southeastern and the ARHPA. But as Ed would certainly tell you, the most important thing to come out of their time at the shows were the close friendships he cherished and the unforgettable memories that he would carry with him through the rest of his life.

Ed was a huge Ohio State Buckeye football fan. You could find him in front of the TV every Saturday cheering them on, if he didn’t head back to Columbus to watch them in person. He also attended Falcons games, Auburn games, TCU games, Braves games, NASCAR races, even travelling all the way to Las Vegas to watch the professional bull riders.  Ed was always up for an adventure.

 Above all else, Ed loved his family. From day one, he was always there.  If he was traveling for work on a birthday, he would send home balloons and a silly card. He attended almost every school play or performance, innumerable sporting events, assisted with countless school projects and made it to every graduation. He truly loved being a dad and he will be greatly missed by so many who were blessed to know and love him.

Ed leaves behind his wife, Ann, his daughter, Missy, his son Andy, Andy’s wife Renata, his grandson, Edward, with whom he shared a very special relationship and three sisters, Bettie, Shirley and Marge.
