Steve Smith

Obituary Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2022

Steve Smith passed away unexpectedly at age 62 on January 26, 2022, at 3:13 pm at Northside Forsyth Hospital with his devoted wife, Shelly, at his side. Steve was born on September 16, 1959 in Apple Valley, California and graduated from California State University, San Bernadino with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.  He devoted much of his professional career to law enforcement and retired as a Captain of the San Bernadino County Sheriff’s Department. Steve  deeply loved  his family and friends, and enjoyed serving his community, sports, and several hobbies.  He enjoyed refereeing high school football for many years with his father and brothers.  Steven enjoyed ranch life toward the end of his career in Devore, CA before relocating to Georgia.  His retired years were spent golfing, traveling with his family, and leisure work on his acreage property in Cumming, Georgia.  Steve’s other interests included keeping his shooting skills sharp at the range and a consistent pursuit of knowledge.  Steve felt there was always an opportunity to learn something new; no historic placard was not fully read by Steve. His favorite place to go was Hawaii, favorite song “Sweet Home Alabama”, and his favorite team was the Denver Broncos. Another of Steve’s favorite things was serving and giving back to his community, he could be found weekly in the high school ministry at his church providing meals, snacks, laughs, wisdom, and God’s word.  Steve’s life reflected his favorite verse Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you, be STRONG and COURAGEOUS! Do not be afraid or do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Steve is survived by his wife: Shelly; children: Robert and Jason & his wife Michaela: grandchildren: Tori, Bryson, and Adriana Melania; mother: Susan; siblings: Shane & his wife Peggy, Stan & his wife Kathy, Scott & his wife Laura, Sheryl & her husband Dave; Nephews: Ryan & his wife Kelsee, Westan, Andrew, Matthew and Blake; Nieces: Jordyn & her fiancé David, Jaycee, Paige and Kaitlyn: great nieces: Taylee and Brexlee: Uncle: Richard Keagy DVM.

He is preceded in death by his father Richard; grandparents: Hilan & Evelyn Keagy DVM: Grandparents Herbert and Ruth Smith.

Steve will forever be remembered for his love and devotion to family, church, the ranch and his loyal four-legged canine Buster, his generous nature toward his law enforcement co-workers and his passion for sports and firearms.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 10:30 am at First Baptist Church of Cumming -1597 Sawnee Dr, Cumming, GA 30040.
