Dr. Manuel Alberto de Freixas Gonzalez

Dr. Manuel Alberto de Freixas Gonzalez, age 85, of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022.

Mr. Gonzalez was of Cuban decent and moved to Cleveland in 1986, after marrying the love of his life, Maria del Carmen Sanchez Gonzalez on December 4, 1965, in Staten Island, New York.  He was a Professor of Language and History, serving at Truett-McConnell University, Piedmont College, and Spellman College throughout his career.  Manuel was fluent in 7 languages and worked as a court translator and was an author, journalist, children’s case worker, and taught English as a second language to many church goers, corporations, and prisoners.  Mr. Gonzalez was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Clarkesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Gonzalez and Margarita de Freixas-Gonzalez; wife, Maria Del Carmen Sanchez Gonzalez.

Survivors include his son and daughters-in-law, Danny and Tabitha Gonzalez, Cleveland, and Jeff and Ellen Gonzalez, Clarkesville; son, Paul Gonzalez, Cleveland; daughter, Dawn Gonzalez, Cleveland; sister, Maggie Gonzalez; grandchildren, Christian, Brandon, Ashton, Chaz, Joseph, and Tevin; several great-grandchildren; and special niece, Luli Sanchez.

A prayer mass will be held at a later date.
