Mr. Charles Fred Hood, age 76, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022. Charles was born in Dahlonega on October 14, 1945, to the late Fred and Irene Nix Hood.
Charles “Pops” was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and his friends. He was one of the rare folks who truly loved his work and took great pride in doing every job, large or small, with excellence.
He taught his kids and grandkids how to work hard and play hard. He was there for almost every competition, recital, game, and tournament: even tournaments as far away as Canada. One of the things he was so proud of was that his youngest daughter was ranked third in the world at adaptive CrossFit. (She is competitive, just like her Pa).
Pops was a “Jack of all Trades”. He was fluent in business and amazed his grandkids with mental math. He could fix anything with an engine and was great with people. He taught his kids and grandkids how to use every kind of lawn equipment, how to fish, ride a bike, shoot a basketball, and especially how to get a good deal at Rock House. He relished a good deal. He was often found in the clearance aisle at Wal-Mart Home Depot or Habitat.
Pops was a talented musician and loved to play the guitar, piano, and harmonica. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing harmony with the family. He was always the first one his family called when they had an emergency because they knew he would be right there to help fix it. If by chance he couldn’t, he at least knew who to call to get it fixed. Day or night, icy or clear, near or far, he would be there.
He loved to talk and spent many hours on the phone with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He loved his parents and was there for them until the end of their lives.
Pops family and friends have suffered a great and unexpected loss with the passing of Charles. We had all assumed that he would outlive us all. We are comforted in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father’s will is perfect. Although it wasn’t what we hoped for, we can rest in His perfect will.
On Charles’ last day, he left his family with directions to take care of mom, the kids, and the grandkids. He shared his love for his siblings, nieces, and nephews with his family. He looked forward to seeing his mom and dad and all those who had gone on before him. He said, “If this thing doesn’t work out, I’ll meet you at the gates.” In return, his family told him that they fully expected him to be watching and waiting, just as he always has. “We love you, Pops, and we will miss you every day until we meet you again.”
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Clyde Hood, Vernon Hood, and Jewell Hood; sisters Francis Armstrong and Wanslie Fulright.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Hood of Dahlonega; children Cheryl (John) Carter of Dahlonega, Greg (Aileen) Hood of Dahlonega, and Amy Hood of Atlanta; brothers Marvin (Joyce) Hood and Jimmy (Nancy) Hood; sisters Vera Mae Crane and Glenda Parrish; honorary sister Polly Bearden; grandchildren Abby Carter, Joseph Carter, Jack Carter, Lily Carter, and Megan Hood; great grandchildren Owen Dawson, Zoey Dawson, and soon to arrive Maxton Charles.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022, in Tickanetley Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Ellijay, GA, with Elder Asa Moseley officiating. Due to COVID concerns, no visitation will be held.
