Meng Dong Helvie was born in Anhui, China on November 25, 2006. On February 19, 2012, her “gotcha day” she was adopted by her forever family. Meng loved animals, especially her dog Tofu, and cats Spot, Gus, and Burrito. As a child, she loved playing in the woods with her sisters and friends. Meng performed on stage at the Holly theater in multiple children’s productions, swam on Lumpkin County’s swim team, volunteered at the Center for the Visually Impaired in Atlanta, was part of Lumpkin County Highschool’s Key Club and HOSA, and most recently had joined the St. Luke’s Catholic Church Women’s Guild. Meng had a passion for little children and had aspirations to become a teacher for the deaf. Meng is survived by her parents Mark Helvie and Kim Scheil of Dahlonega; her sisters Mary Helvie, Ru Helvie, Sarah Helvie and Hildegard Helvie of Dahlonega; her grandmother, Margaret Scheil of Dahlonega, GA; grandmother Patrica Helvie of Anderson, SC; grandparents Phil and Deb Scheil of Frankfort, KY and many other loving relatives.
Visitation will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home on Friday, February 4th at 5:00pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 5th at 6:30pm. Graveside services will be held Sunday, February 6th at 2:00pm at Dahlonega Memorial Park. Meng asked for donations to be made to Make A Wish as a thank you to the organization for her wonderful Make A Wish trip to Hawaii.
