James Mayo Casteel

Mr. James Mayo Casteel, age 88 of Flowery Branch, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the Chapel of Memorial Park South Cemetery.  Rev. John Batusic will officiate.  The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Mr. Casteel was born June 17, 1933 to the late James Mayo & Myrtle Polson Casteel in Porterdale, Georgia.  A Veteran of the United States Army, he was a retired Teacher and Coach with DeKalb County School District and a member of Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church.  He was inducted into the Florida State University Hall of Fame in 1995 as an All American Track & Field Athlete.

Mr. Casteel is survived by his wife, Eleanor Casteel; son & daughter-in-law, Mike & Donna Casteel and Ron & Lisa Casteel; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; and a sister.
