Leona Brown

Obituary Date: Wednesday, January 26, 2022

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Mrs. Leona Brown, 87, who passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022. She was born and raised in Decatur, GA. and was the daughter of the late Lula & Virgil Blalock. She graduated from Decatur "all girls" High School.

She immediately went to work at F.W. Woolworth at the age of 15 and realized she needed to find a career and joined C&S Bank working in the proof department. Apparently, the banking industry was her calling and she then joined Fulton Federal working as a teller. After a few years, she joined Peachtree Bank as a customer service representative, a teller and eventually a loan officer before she retired after working 30 years. She was involved in two robberies and thank God, lived to talk about it. She has always said that she loved every minute of it, and enjoyed meeting so many different people who most became good long-life friends. She remembers working with the Atlanta Flames professional Hockey Team, especially Tom Lysiak and Eric Vail who where her favorites, and helping country music star, John Berry and Banks & Shane, a music duo, get started with their musical careers, she also helped many locals including Ivan Epperson who owned AAA Blueprint Company, Mr. Glaze who owned Glaze's Grocery Store, and the list goes on and on. She literally helped so many people when "handshakes & only a signature" were required.

Once she retired, you could either find her cooking, shopping or visiting one store after another with one of her many dear friends. Leona absolutely loved to shop, especially when it was bargain, and could not own enough pair of shoes. Even at the age of 87, she had more shoes and clothes than she could ever wear.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, J.V., Perry, Roy, Alton, Howard and John Blalock. Sister, Catherine Conkle. She married Bobby Brown on May 28, 1955 who she met while driving down Peachtree St. in downtown Atlanta when he opened her car door and asked if he could go, too? Leona said he was so cute wearing his white sailors Navy outfit that she couldn’t say no. They had a loving marriage until her death and shared three wonderful children. She loved her family and always made sure the family had everything they needed. Eventually, she would be lovingly known as “Mimi” to four grandchildren whom she loved dearly and thought could do no wrong. She is survived by her husband, Bobby, her sister Hazel Rysavy of Austin, MN, sons and daughter-in-law’s, Greg & Tracey Brown of Alpharetta, Ken & Kris Brown of Kennesaw, and daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Mark Pitt of Sugar Hill; grandchildren and their spouses, Grant & Caitlin Brown, Makena & Evan Troutt, and Ashley & Sydney Brown in addition to many wonderful nieces & nephews.

Leona was served over 67 years by a truly devoted husband, an exceptional team of doctors and the caring staff at Belmont Village Senior Living. Thank you to everyone who was “always” there to lend a helping hand or give professional advice.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 9:30 – 10:30 at Ingram Funeral Home, 210 Ingram Ave., Cumming, GA. 30040. The service will immediately follow.

She wanted everyone to know that she loved life, a good joke, so many life-long and very dear friends. Leona enjoyed a good margarita, or glass of wine and that she has always said “I’ve had a good ride”!
