Reverend Newton Phillips age 88 of Toccoa passed away Friday January 21, 2022 at his residence.
A son of the late Reese and Katie Rumsey Phillips, he was born April 23, 1933 in Habersham County, Georgia having lived most of his life in Toccoa. He was retired from Georgia Department of Transportation with twenty years of service. He was an ordained Baptist minister having pastored in Stephens and surrounding counties. He was veteran in the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He enjoyed wood working and old cars and a member of Straightway Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Truitt and Donna Phillips and Wayne and Doris Phillips both of Toccoa and Charles and Rhonda Phillips of Mt. Airy; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 25, 2022 at 2 P.M in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Madison McCrackin and The Reverend Alvin Burns officiating. The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from 6 P.M. til 8 P.M.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Kevin Phillips, Brian Phillips, Brian Pulliam, Keith McCurry, Zack McCrackin and Chuck Billingsley.
Interment will follow in Hazel Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
