Randy Michael Pruitt

Obituary Date: Friday, January 21, 2022

Words overflow like a fount for Randy Michael Pruitt, who passed away suddenly on January 21, 2022 at the age of 63. He was a husband, father, papa, brother, and friend who lived a beautiful life of faith, love, and service from start to end.

Randy Michael Pruitt was born August 1, 1958 in Lumpkin County to James Russel Pruitt and Mary Girlie Pruitt. He is survived by his wife of 29 years Rachel Pruitt. Children Brittany Sproul (Leland), Taylor Pruitt (Dan), Angela Martin (Nathan) and Stephen Tow. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren who were an immense source of pride for him. In addition, he is survived by siblings Thomas Pruitt, Phyllis Burton, Sandra Seabolt (Johnny) and Jerry Pruitt and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mary Pruitt, son Kevin Pruitt, siblings Leroy Pruitt, Russel Pruitt, Charles Pruitt, Larry Pruitt and Mildred Rider.

How best do we sum up a man who meant so much to so many and spent a lifetime serving?

The youngest of ten siblings, Randy graduated Lumpkin County High School in 1976 and started his career in public service as a dispatcher at the age of 19 with the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office. The path of service that followed would eventually lead to Randy serving as Sheriff of Lumpkin County from 1989-1993. His Law Enforcement career continued on spanning many years and many counties until he began to serve the citizens of Lumpkin County as Assistant Magistrate Court Judge in 2010. His lifetime of service pressed on when in 2012 he was elected Chief Magistrate Judge of Lumpkin County where he proudly served until his final days here on Earth.

Much more than a public servant, Randy was adored by his wife, five children and eleven grandchildren. He was a faithful man and a member of Bethel Tabernacle Baptist Church who gave his life to the Lord in 1992 and kept an unwavering faith and mighty testimony all his days. He was a brother of the Grand Lodge of Georgia Free and Accepted Masons: Etowah Lodge #222. He was a savvy businessman, a licensed auctioneer, and real estate agent during his lifetime.

There was not a stranger that Randy did not know, or a single smile kept to himself. His indomitable spirit encouraged his family and friends to persist in the face of many struggles and to walk by faith.

In lieu of flowers, the Pruitt family requests that donations be made in his name to Emory Healthcare, who along with his sister Phyllis, are responsible for giving him the gift of life in 1991 through kidney donation/transplant. In addition, the Pruitt family encourages each person who knew and loved Randy to consider becoming an organ donor.

"Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life." Revelations 2:10
