Doris “Virginia” Smith

Mrs. Doris “Virginia” Smith, age 93 of Flowery Branch, GA (formerly of Murrayville, GA) went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 16, 2022 after a long difficult battle with extended illnesses.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlton Rudolph Rowland and her second husband of 24 years, Wilse Martin Smith, until he passed away on July 12, 1989; parents, Ezra and Sallie Chawning; brothers, Alvin Chewning, Calvin Chewning, Melvin Chewning and her son that she missed terribly, Glenn Richard Rowland,  She is survived by her daughter and caregiver, Linda Gail Rowland of Flowery Branch, GA; daughter, Jeanne Grace Smith Carpenter and son-in-law, Dwayne Carpenter of Flowery Branch, GA; two grandchildren that were her pride and joy; grandson, Cody Levi Smith of Flowery Branch, GA; granddaughter, Lori Langman and Jordan Langman; grandson-in-law of Braselton, GA, along with many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.  Virginia was born on July 19, 1928 in Dekalb County, Stone Mountain, GA.  In her early life, she worked at Sears in Atlanta, GA, Safeco Insurance, Hartford Insurance, and later on as a caregiver for elderly and sick patients, working until she was in her early 80’s, still driving herself to and from work.  She was feisty and tiny but strong willed, determined, and one of the most kind and loving people you could ever meet, and would give you anything you needed, even if she didn’t have it herself.  She was the best mother and Nanny that we could have ever had, so wonderful and sweet.  She loved shopping at Belk, eating at Olive Garden and many other places with her family, and she loved the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.  Most of all she just loved her family and wanted the best for us all.  She loved flowers, birds, especially Blue Birds and Red Birds, angels, and her favorite color was pink.  She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Buford, GA, where she joined the church in 1965 and married her husband, Wilse Martin Smith, who was also a longtime member of Bethlehem.  Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022 in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Smith officiating.  Interment will follow at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Buford, GA.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA
