Frances Ficke

Obituary Date: Sunday, January 16, 2022
Frances Ficke, 102, passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, January 16, 2022. She was born on September 18, 1919 to Peter and Ann Naikelis in Virden,ILL  but lived most of her childhood in Auburn Illinois. Frances was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, rising to the Rank of 1st Lieutenant where she met and married Captain Norman Ficke, a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps.  They were married for almost 65 years before his death in 2010.
After raising 3 children, they enjoyed traveling the Country and the World in their Airstream with their beloved dog, Taffy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Ann Barts and Helen Gordon and son-in-law, Gary MacMillan.  
She is survived by her son, Norman Ficke Jr (Patricia) of Gainesville, Ga, daughters, Lee Ann MacMillan of Gastonia, NC
and Lynn Wittkowski (Dr Victor) of Ft Collins, CO.  six Grandchildren and eight Great-Grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday; January 22, 2022 at St Michael Catholic Church, Gainesville Ga with Fr. Tim Hepburn presiding. Interment to follow in the Veterans Section of Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to your local Animal Shelter or Hospice. Special thanks to the people of
Morningside Assisted Living of Gainesville who took such loving care of our mother for several years.
