Mr. Jerry Blane McClure, 81, was born in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, NC on December 9, 1940 to the late Clyde E. and Pauline Dale McClure. Jerry passed away peacefully on January 07, 2022 following an extended illness.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde Jackie McClure and Harold Wiley McClure.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 10, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Matthew Vandergriff and Rev. Ricky Thrasher will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday January 09, 2022 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Due to the concerns of Covid-19 mask will be required and the family respectfully request all guest in attendance observe social distancing guidelines. If you are experiencing symptoms of sickness please refrain from attending the services.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war in Cam Ranh Bay, South Vietnam. He was also stationed in Petersburg, Virginia and Charleston, South Carolina, as well as San Antonio, Texas, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant as an Airman 1stClass during his service of 1963-1967. Jerry was always proud of his time in the military and was often recognized for his service. Jerry worked in various capacities after his time in the military, eventually retiring from Reliance Electric in 2002.
Jerry was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gainesville for many years, and most recently Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Gainesville. Through his many years of service to his Lord, he served as a deacon, drove the church bus, sang in the choir, served as Sunday school Superintendent, teaching in the children’s ministry, as well as always being willing to serve in many areas he was needed.
Jerry was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was devoted to his family and loved them deeply, always providing well for them and standing by them with love and support.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Judy Hogan McClure of Oakwood; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and John Spinks of Oakwood; son and son-in-law, Matt McClure and Josh Noble of Tallapoosa; his beloved granddaughter, Regan Spinks of Oakwood; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Larry Jones of Clermont; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Gene Thompson of Gillsville; sister-in-law, Linda McClure of Gainesville; special family friend, Julia Goodroe, as well as many nieces and nephews.
