Mary Elizabeth Cooper Hanes

Obituary Date: Friday, January 7, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Elizabeth Cooper Hanes announces her death on Jan.7, 2022.  Mary was born in Chestnut Mountain on July 13, 1928. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Essie Cheek Cooper, husband of 53 years William Hanes; son, Greg Hanes; sister, Carolyn Bagwell and brother, William (Bill) Cooper.

She leaves to cherish many wonderful memories her daughter, Beth Hanes DeLaPerriere; daughter-in-law, Angie Hanes; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Poole, Nicole (Benjie) Wood, Herman (Taylor) DeLaPerriere IV, William (Laura) DeLaPerriere, Meagan (Julio) Valencia, Callie Hanes, Abby Hanes (Peter); great grandchildren: Riley, Annabeth, Avery, Cooper, Preston, Easton, Carolena, Emelia, Julia Mae and Logan; brother, Fred (Connie) Cooper.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mary was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church.  She retired from the Department of Transportation after thirty-four years. 

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 9, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.at the funeral home with the service following at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Reverend John Batusic will officiate.  Interment will be in Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church Cemetery. 

The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to your favorite charity or do an act of kindness in her memory.
