Betty Oglesby

Mrs. Betty Oglesby, 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, departed peacefully to her heavenly home on January 7, 2022 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  

Mrs. Oglesby has been a long time resident of Gainesville since 1958.  She was preceded in death by her husband Ted Oglesby, her parents Arthur and Maud Mitchell, her brothers Griffin and James Mitchell, her sisters Catherine Bedell and Mary Wilkes, and her son in-law Ron Hahne.

Survivors include son Reggie Oglesby, daughter Lydia Hahne, grandchildren Andrew Reece (wife Hayley), Morgan Reece, and Maxwell Oglesby, sister Patsy Clark, brother in-laws Dr. James Oglesby (Jeannie) and John Oglesby (Jan), and several nieces and nephews.

While Betty was in better health, she was an active member of Lakewood Baptist Church. She was a retired Hall County school teacher where she taught at Jones (Chicopee) Elementary and later, Lula Elementary school.  She was a graduate of University of Georgia and received a Master’s from North Georgia College. She was well thought of among her contemporaries and students.

Funeral services will be held at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 am with Dr. Tom Smiley and Dr. Tyler Smiley will be officiating. The Graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, January 14th at the Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Lakewood Baptist Church children’s program.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Manor Lake Assisted Living and also Golden Rule Hospice for their excellent care of Betty and for all the kind words from those who know her.
